S-type thermocouple, also known as single platinum rhodium thermocouple, whose graduation number is S graduation number, mainly measures the temperature of medium at 0 ~ 1600℃, which belongs to a category of noble metal thermocouples. It is normally used in coking plants, iron and steel plants and other high-temperature applications.
Operation Theory of Thermocouple
The working principle of the thermocouple is based on the physical phenomenon that two conductors with different components are connected into a loop. If the temperature of the two terminals is different, heat flow will be generated in the circuit.

Thermal Response Time
When step change of temperature happens, τ0.5 is used to indicate the time for current output signal of instrument changes into 50% of the step change value.
Wire Selection
The compensation wire shall match with the graduation of thermocouple. Compensation wires of different cross-section area or types shall be selected depending on distance, ambient temperature, and demands on protection.
Generally, copper conductor shall be adopted for connection wire of thermal resistance. Cross-section area of the wire to be selected depends on distance, and insulation materials and different protections of the wire to be selected depend on environment conditions.
